Our Initiatives

Terrestrial and Marine Monitoring Sites

Permanent monitoring sites spanning tropical forest, coast and near-shore waters, instrumented with DNA barcoding, eDNA metabarcoding, camera traps, acoustic sensors, permanent vegetation plots with fixed-point imaging, and water quality and benthic sampling. Each site establishes a biodiversity baseline, tracks species turnover, range shifts, vegetation and habitat change over time, and supports early detection of invasive species for biosecurity and regulatory reporting; each operates under the custody of its in-country partner.

Reference Libraries and Decentralised Sequencing

Low-cost, decentralised sequencing nodes built to community-standardised, voucher-linked protocols and deployed where central laboratories cannot reach. Vouchered, imaged specimens of forest, freshwater and reef taxa become the reference barcodes that identification and monitoring tools require and that the least-sampled regions of the world still lack.

Provenance, Metadata and Data Infrastructure

The data pipeline from field intake to published record. Sample tracking, voucher imaging, metadata to open biodiversity standards and consent are recorded as first-class fields at every step, so that every record is traceable to its specimen, its site, its method and its custodian; every dataset is interoperable with the international occurrence and sequence infrastructures; and every site publishes under its own name.

To make biodiversity measurable where it is least known, by operating field monitoring sites, building reference libraries and maintaining provenance-complete data pipelines in the tropical regions that global monitoring has not yet reached.

Vision:

A world in which every ecosystem has a baseline, every record has a provenance, and the people who hold custody of a place hold custody of its data.

OUR IMPACT

The regions with the most biodiversity have the least data. Monitoring tools built on well-sampled ecosystems return unresolved results where reference libraries are thin, and conservation decisions there are made without a baseline. ICRI Global closes that gap at source: sites that generate standards-compliant data, reference libraries built from vouchered specimens, and a pipeline that makes each record usable, reproducible and attributable.

What We Do

Biodiversity baselines

Establishing what lives at a site through DNA barcoding, eDNA, camera trap and acoustic survey, with results structured to international biodiversity data standards.

Reference library production

Vouchered, imaged and barcoded specimens from under-sampled taxa and regions, deposited to reference libraries that identification tools depend on.

Ecosystem change monitoring

Repeated, standardised sampling over time to detect species turnover, range shifts and habitat change for conservation management.

Sample tracking and provenance

Structured field intake, metadata standards and consent records carried through the pipeline, so that every sequence and observation is traceable to its specimen, site and custodian.

Protocols and training

Field-deployable, voucher-linked protocols and technician training that allow sites to operate without a resident molecular laboratory.
